value of verse. But one does not have to be a poet, or even like poetry, to benefit from putting authentic words on paper and molding them into a satisfactory shape.

The poems and instructions in this book are written by real women for real women. Rise, Woman. Rise. is especially for women because women need other women when they have particular emotional pain that has traditionally been associated with the plight of women.  If a woman is going to open up to the feelings inside, allow herself to be vulnerable enough to spill her deepest hurts onto paper, she wants to know that other women are standing with her. She wants to read about their hurts and know that they understand in a way that no man could ever understand, because some of the hurt that lies deep in the bosom of womankind is as old as Eve. It can be exposed and "dug out" only in the company of Sisterhood.
