Delilah O'Haynes has created a totally new literary encounter for lovers of poetry and Appalachian literature by fusing poetry, photography, and art to tell a story about Appalachian heritage. O'Haynes' poetry comes to life with sharp images, and the range of photographs, old and new, fleshes out the nimble imagery of the verses, immersing the reader in the Appalachian experience. Readers say they have never seen anything like this book before.
This book, through poetry and photography, depicts the author's authentic experiences growing up in Appalachia, including coal-mining, Indian ancestry, strength of mountain people, mountain music, poverty, the struggle to stay in Appalachia or leave, and mountain-top removal, to name a few.
The scenic photography is O'Haynes' work, except for photos of area removal, which were donated by the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, to which a portion of the proceeds of this book will be donated.
